Even though Reggae isn’t on my heavy music rotation, I have so much love and respect for the genre and community. Reggae music was really the first wave of what we now call “conscious music”. People of Color were the first to make musical medicine to raise vibrations, to unite people, and to heal the deep cultural wounds of colonialism. Therefore, this month’s empowerment song is “One People” from Australian native Nattali Rize to honor Reggae’s legacy of setting people free.
Get to Know Nattali Rize
If you ask Nattali Rize where she comes from and she’ll tell you “All directions.” It’s an apt description of a singer who defies boundaries; culturally, musically and spiritually. The Nattali Rize debut album “Rebel Frequency” hit the streets in March 2017 to high acclaim, impacting worldwide charts & hearts! Nattali delivers a raw energy, channeling a deep reggae influence in a New Era Style. The music, message & intention transcends, the borders and waters that divide us. The movement is to ignite the great remembrance of who we are, our collective power, what we can be, to break the mental conditioning and find full freedom in this lifetime.
Not only is she an incredible musician and performer, but Nattali is also a profoundly wise woman. Her consciousness is absolutely equal to her fierceness. I could listen to her talk for a literal eternity. For example, here is one of my favorite interviews with her at the Cali-Roots Raggae festival.
“The real revolution is the evolution of our consciousness.”
One People
The song One People takes fierce aim at Babylon, a name for the oppressive society that the patriarchy built.
On these frigid winter days, I see Babylon is so starkly. The angles of the city are extra cold and hard; the surrounding farmland haggard, poisoned, and scraped raw for hundreds of miles. The people grey with isolation and depression.
But the chorus of the song is like a potent prayer, manifesting a new reality:
“I-ration, All Nations, One People, One Destiny.”
I have to admit, I had to look up what “I-ration” meant. And I am glad that I did. In Reggae music the “I” refers to self, god, and the universe. The community invented this beautiful word “I-ration” to represent the unity of the self and all of god’s creation.
Let warm your heart “I-ration, All Nations, One People, One Destiny.”
Until Babylon falls and Unity Consciousness reigns once again.
“Music is the healer, she’s the healer.”
Amen
