Each month, I am going to be sharing different women empowerment music. The music industry is still mostly dominated by men- women are still grossly under represented. In a recent study that looked at 700 Billboard’s Top 100 songs from 2012 to 2018 “women made up only 21.7 percent of artists, 12.3 percent of songwriters and 2.1 percent of producers”. This is why it is so important for us to shine the spotlight on women’s music.
Furthermore music, more than any other art form, can fan the flames of the soul (or the ego). I hope these monthly women empowerment music selections will help keep the fires in your hearts burning strong.
“As I Am” by Paper Bird is my first women empowerment song selection because it really represents what this blog is all about. I hope to make a positive impact on every person who finds their way to this site. And my goal is to encourage women to be unabashedly themselves, to challenge everyone to take us as we are, without conforming to societal expectations of what we “should be”.
